I wrote this piece awhile ago, and then forgot to do a final polish so i could publish it. I will set it free on the world now.

So i spent a few hours converting an old BESM character over to Silver Age Sentinels. While trying to keep the character concept roughly the same and not making him more or less powerful.
I think i got pretty close.
Jason Baker is one of my more “under my skin” characters. He is for want of a better description a Tony Stark/Iron man clone. That was the basic concept when i began to build the character. Of course to give him a bit of a difference i added in aspects from the other Billionaire hero, Bruce Wayne/Batman I.e the death of his parents in front of his eyes, and lots of gadgets.
Anyway the conversion through up some interesting differences. The major one being skills. Back when i was making the BESM character, i decide that skills where not that important for the character, as certain Advantages gave him bonuses in the only skills that mattered, and that the BESM level we were playing at meant that skills barely mattered, so i took the disadvantage that got rid of all my skill points. This time around though, Silver age has makes more use of skills, so i ended up putting seven levels into highly skilled, giving me and extra 70 skills, and 100 skill points in total.
This is a major change for the character, but it was something i was moving towards within the old BESM system, retiring the character for some time, that was spent dealing with his homicidal/suicidal tendencies and also learning lots of skills. So while a big change, it is something that i have paved the way for, at least one that requires minimum hand waving at any rate!
of course the big aspect for the character is the Suit of Armour, known as the Platinum Knight, which has various advantages and disadvantages. the basics are flight, increased strength, a good sensor package and a ‘Sonic’ Attack.
However we get negatives that the suit has two masters, the company that built it, and its legal masters within the games world. So there is a very fine line it must follow for all of its actions.
Its an interesting process to convert an established character between systems, even ones as closely related as BESM and SAS. A conversion gets you wondering about the choices you made originally, and how the character has changed because of the adjustments you have made through play. It is something that is defiantly worthwhile, just not always suitable for a campaign.
